Cainfields: Remembering the Bastille

Christopher M Pilie'
07 Dec 2019 Literature

"The stories of the violent storming of the Bastille was fresh in her mind. The palace was much like a prison as the threat to her life seemed to be at every turn and at every corner in every hall where she recently had called home. It was this night that she would attempt to escape as the city which was soon to be stolen from her.”

“She was not alone in the room this night. Amongst the long still shadows that stretched across the floor and up the walls, a member of the royal guard stood at attention near the room’s locked entrance. His eyes were hidden in shadow under the black and gold trimmed tricorne hat and appeared almost as a ornamental fixture. His posture was stiff in his white breasted blouse with royal blue sleeves capped with bold red cuffs.”
